Butterfly Ducky (D73-174)

Butterfly Ducky freshly hatched at the Ducky Pond

Created by Cheryl for Butterflies Are Free To Fly; placed on December 15, 2009.

Butterfly Ducky was created ahead of time specifically for this cache (oh, oh…. what about the curse?) using a Pipevine Swallowtail (a butterfly native to New York) as the model.

The cache is hidden on the grounds of the Joseph L. Popp Jr. Butterfly Conservatory.  Team-Ducky hasn’t had the pleasure of visiting it yet, but decided to go get the cache.  When we got there, we made the unfortunate discovery that the driveway wasn’t plowed and we were unable to enter the grounds.  (CURSES!)

We returned a week or so later and found the driveway mostly cleared. We found the cache, dropped off Butterfly Ducky, and then tried to leave– almost getting stuck on the icy, steep driveway.

Later that month, on a bet, we accompanied Softball29 and BHouston21 as they went to “net” Butterfly Ducky.  We were right, she was still there–but not for long.  BHouston added her to his collection.
